ORF Postponing Replacing Access Cards
Austrian platform ORF has delayed exchanging their access cards to the public, which is necessary for broadcast reception via Astra (19.2°E). The five-year owners warranty using the coding system CryptoWorks card has expired and must be replaced.
The fact is that some ORF cards have now been in operation for seven years. ORF informed the newspaper Der Standard, it has not yet made a date for replacing the access cards.
The card exchange could happen in 2011. General elections are coming up that year and the media does not want to alienate the public. So it is likely that the exchange will be up for another year. Costs for the replacing the cards is at least € 20 for each cardholder.
ORF decoder cards are designed for reception of satellite programs ORF - ORF1 and ORF2 including regional HD broadcasting, ORF1 and ORF2 HD.
