Media General’s WFLA-TV in Tampa (NBC) became the first broadcast television station in the Tampa market, and the second Media General station, to launch mobile digital television (MDTV). The real-time local broadcast service began during the week of 10/11 and can be received on suitably equipped laptops, mobile phones and other portable devices. WCMH-TV, Media General’s Columbus, OH NBC affiliate, launched Mobile DTV on 9/23.
Said Media General CEO Marshall Morton said that in addition to now offering Mobile DTV in two television markets, they will add 4-6 additional television markets in the coming months: “We already serve a growing audience over numerous personal wireless devices, with our e-mail, APPs, SMS, and mobile website services. We also are pleased to be part of a group of 12 broadcasters who comprise the vanguard for Mobile DTV.”
