New DTH platform for Bulgaria
By Chris Dziadul - September 1, 2010
The Bulgarian incumbent telco Vivacom has launched what is the country’s third DTH platform. Making its debut today (September 1), the service is known as Vivacom TV and will compete directly with Bulsatcom and Total TV.
Vivacom is distributed by Intelsat 12 at 45 degrees East and offers viewers over 70 channels in three packages. The cheapest of these, known as ‘Start’, costs BGN9.8 (€5) a month and consists of 40 channels, among them BNT, bTV and Nova TV. Also in the line-up are bTV Cinema, Fox Life, Sports RING.bg, Eurocom, Animal Planet, the music channels MAD, City TV, Latina F Balkanika and children’s E-KIDS and Super 7.
‘Extra’, the most expensive package, with 70 channels, costs BGN17.80 a month, compared to the BGN20-25 charged by competitors for similar services. It also includes access to the service Premium Digital, which offers the latest Hollywood productions.
Although subscribers can receive Vivacom TV without a contract, those that enter into one or two-year ones are offered discounts of 50% for the first three or six months. Reception equipment for Vivacom TV is being offered free of charge.
The service includes an EPG and is part of a triple play offer. It will add HD channels to its basic line-up in what Vivacom says is “the very near future”.
